The Cabinet on Tuesday decided on a list of 24 luxury items, including beef and automobiles, that will not be allowed to be exported to North Korea based on Sanction Resolution 1718 adopted by the U.N. Security Council in reaction to Pyongyang's Oct. 9 nuclear test.

The list will have 33 items in total, according to classifications of the list of import items.

The Cabinet will revise the Export Trade Control Order based on the Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Law to make the list effective Wednesday.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki said at a press conference Tuesday that the criteria for listing the items were set based on the assumption that the products would be used by senior North Korean officials or given to their subordinates.

"North Korean leaders should take the message from the international community seriously," he said.

The luxury items include tuna filet, which is said to be a favorite food of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, and cameras and equipment for making movies, as Kim loves movies.
